Enchanted: Woodcutter Sisters #1

SYNOPSIS:

It isn't easy being the rather overlooked and unhappy youngest sibling to sisters named for the other six days of the week. Sunday’s only comfort is writing stories, although what she writes has a terrible tendency to come true.

When Sunday meets an enchanted frog who asks about her stories, the two become friends. Soon that friendship deepens into something magical. One night Sunday kisses her frog goodbye and leaves, not realizing that her love has transformed him back into Rumbold, the crown prince of Arilland—and a man Sunday’s family despises.

The prince returns to his castle, intent on making Sunday fall in love with him as the man he is, not the frog he was. But Sunday is not so easy to woo. How can she feel such a strange, strong attraction for this prince she barely knows? And what twisted secrets lie hidden in his past—and hers?

REVIEW:

First of all the dedication made me want to dive right in to the book. Alethea dedicates the book to her sister, who will always be ungrateful. When you have a writer that can joke around like that before the story begins I feel like you know that you re in for a special treat.

I really enjoyed the various fairy tales being mixed throughout the entire story, and the even through the Woodcutter family. Sometimes they are just hinted at and sometimes it is right in your face. I appreciated that it wasn't only the popular fairy tales that everyone knows that were being woven to tell the tale as well.

I have always loved stories that integrate the world of the Fae with the world of Mortals. Fairy tales are full of Fairy Godmothers and other mythological creatures but we rarely get to hear of the world that they come from. Although there isn't much said about the world of the Fae it is mentioned. Kontis talks about fairy curses, fairy wells, fairy godmothers, changelings, the fairy queen and her consorts and fairy powers and how they were acquired within the mortal realm.

Enchanted is, in fact, Enchanting!

GREAT QUOTES:
" 'So tell me about this fellow I haven't met yet.' 'He makes me laugh,' said Sunday. 'I make you laugh.' said Papa. 'As much as I hate the crowds and the costumes,' she said, 'I feel strangely comfortable around him.' Papa harrumphed. 'That's my job too.' 'He seems to go out of his way to seek me out,' she said. 'He worries about my mood and my well being. He seems to genuinly care about me. Why would he do that Papa? He doesn't even know me.' Her father sighed. 'My dearest Sunday,' he said, "I wasn't scared of losing you until that last part.' 'You'll never lose me, Papa' " (Kontis 224)

" 'I cannot promise you a happy ending,' she admitted as she took his hand. 'But I can promise you an interesting life.' " (Kontis 293)
