REVIEW:
First off- if you have read the other Ever After High novels you may be expecting to hear another story about Raven Queen and Apple White. This is a warning that this is not the case! So don't be disappointed when you dive into the next installment of the series and read all about Lizzie Hearts, Maddie Hatter, Kitty Cheshire, and Cedar Wood.
I read a lot of disappointed reviews of this book but I have to admit that I honestly believe this has been my favorite book in the series so far. Shannon Hale has stuffed A Wonderlandiful World with so many great lessons for young and old readers a like that it is hard not to fall in love.
A Wonderlandiful World has a lot of information about writing and storytelling included in it. Hale beautifully illustrates what a simile is, explaining it to the reader in a way that it will stick with them. The narrator and Maddie sneakily instruct on how good storytelling is done. But my favorite lesson was on what empathy is. This is an important term to know in life and an important characteristic to apply. It is very complicated and difficult for people to understand sometimes but it is explained wonderfully through Lizzie Hearts.
I was a bit surprised at how much I found I liked Lizzie Hearts. I can see a lot of things I struggle with in her. She may not come off as the nicest person but she is supposed to grow up to be a Royal Villain in a way. Being away from her family, especially her mother who she greatly looks up to, and from the land that makes sense to her has to be extremely challenging. She always feels like she is living in her mothers shadow, trying to live up to all of her expectations. You can tell that Lizzie wants to be perfect all the time and that is a tremendous amount of pressure.
The focus of this Ever After High Novel was comradery, bravery, and what is means to be a friend. I would have given it 5 stars but the ending got a bit weird and was a little disappointing.
