Review: Won't Let Go

Series: Won't Let Go #1
Release date: December 14th 2013
Publisher: Crescent Moon Press Inc.
Purchase: Amazon

Synopsis:
Seventeen-year-old Alexia Stone never wanted to move cross country. And she certainly never wanted to share her new bedroom with an amnesiac ghost boy desperate for her help.

But after setting aside the assumption she’s gone crazy, Alexia engages in the impossible—she agrees to help the ghost discover who he was and what happened to him. Convinced this mystery is what’s keeping the phantom in the world of the living, Alexia puts her heart on the line to find out what his unfinished business might be.

Ultimately, Alexia must decide what’s more important to her—keeping her phantom boyfriend or helping him finally find peace in death. What she didn’t plan on was not having a choice. One of them must move on, but what if neither wants to let go?

Review:
If you were anything like me growing up (and for your sake lets hope you weren't too much like me because I was one oddball child) you loved Addams Family and Casper growing up. (I feel like my age is showing....) If so then you are just the person that Wont Let Go was written for.
Alexia has moved cross country into a house that looks like it used to belong to the Addams family. As if that isn't bad enough when she walks into her new bedroom she is met by a ghost. Sure he is an extremely hot ghost but Alexia would like him out of her room all the same, that is until she starts to get to know him.
Alexia's ghost, who she names Oakley, doesn't remember anything about his past. He can't even tell Alexia who he used to be! So Alexia embarks on a mission to discover the history of her house and her ghost. What she didn't expect was to fall in love with him along the way, or to have her heart broken by what she found.
Wont Let Go was a cute and quick read. I would read it in the fall around Halloween time to get me in the spirit. (Around the same time I break out the Addams Family and Casper DVDs) Alexia was likeable enough, I didn't love her and I didn't hate her. The story moved quickly and kept you interested, I read it in one sitting.
The mystery surrounding Oakley was a unique take on the ghost story. I felt bad for Alexia as she worked to help him discover who he was and whu he was still tethered to this realm. Each step closer to solving the mystery was one step closer to Oakley leaving her and as she falls deeper in love with him you can see how much of a sacrifice each decision she makes is.
I appreciated the message of loving someone enough to do what is best for them, even when it hurts you. This is one of the biggest tests of true love. Hopefully readers who are going through similar circumstances (not having a ghost, having to let a loved one go...) can find some comfort and inner strength as they see how Alexia faces the challenge.
At one point in the story Olive Avery talks about facing the decision of taking someone who is brain dead off of life support. When I read this passage I felt like I was being told that removing someone from life support was wrong. It was laid on a little thick for my taste. I do not, however, think that this was the intention.
Overall this was an entertaining novel and one I wouldn't mind recommending.

Rating: 3/5
